Outreach Oregon

A 50th Anniversary Initiative of N.I.C.E

*Oregon Needs New Churches
In the '70’s and '80’s NICE initiated a number of new ministries in the State of Oregon. In recent years, despite the population of the State having grown to 3.75 million, we have initiated very few church planting endeavors there. This initiative will renew our efforts in one of the two states (Oregon and Washington) where NICE first began its ministry.

*Our vision

To develop — through evangelism, discipleship, and church planting — a network of aggressively evangelistic and biblically grounded churches in the growing suburban, urban, and rural communities of the State of Oregon.

*Our Ministry Goal is

To maximize the long term effectiveness of an Evangelist Church Planter by

  • Freeing him to use his entrepreneurial skills and evangelistic abilities to the fullest extent.
  • Empowering him to mentor others to be Church Planting Pastors.
  • Facilitating his discovery and development of one or two other Evangelist Church Planters.
To achieve this goal we are assembling a ministry team consisting of an Evangelist/Church Planter, an Advisory/Accountability Committee, and Church Planting Pastors.
*Our Ministry Team

Evangelist/Church Planter Eric Nyborg is the Outreach Oregon ministry leader. In this capacity he targets communities, develops outreach strategies, develops a core group, recruits and mentors a church planting pastor for each new church, and works with each new church for a minimum of two years.

Before joining NICE to lead Outreach Oregon, Eric and Jennifer planted a church in Banks, Oregon.

The Advisory/Accountability Committee is made up of NICE Oregon Field Director, Jerry James and Lewis and Clark Bible Church Pastor Jerry Conklin. These men assist and advise Eric, hold him accountable, approve his suggested target communities and strategies, and monitor the progress of each church plant and the Church Planting Pastors being mentored.
Jerry and Lois James have served with NICE for 40 years. Their résumé includes church planting, pastoring both urban and rural churches, overseeing a fledgling church extension organization, and serving as NICE Field Director in both Washington and Oregon.
Jerry and Laura Conklin have served at Lewis and Clark Bible Church since 1990. During those years the church has grown from a Mission Church to a self supporting ministry, and its leaders have lent a helping hand to several nearby churches.
The Church Planting Pastor changes with each new church planted. After serving under the direction and mentorship of Eric Nyborg for a minimum of two years, the church planting pastor will become the senior pastor of the new church while Eric moves on to the next church plant.

*Our Plan of Action

  • Research communities needing a new churches and, after consulting with the Advisory/Accountability Committee, identify target church planting locations.
  • Seek families and individuals in the community who desire to be part of a Bible believing church.
  • Recruit a Church Planting Pastor to be mentored by Eric for each ministry. The Church Planting Pastor will join the project only after becoming a member of NICE and IFCA International.
  • Eric and the Church Planting Pastor will work as a team to initiate evangelism ministries, Bible studies, and youth ministries with a view to developing a core group.
  • Sunday services will begin when a stable core group has been formed.

Is located in Hillsboro. This is numerically the fastest growing area in the State. Antioch is presently meeting on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. at Tualatin Valley Junior Academy, 21975 SW Baseline Rd, Hillsboro, OR. Contact one of the Outreach Oregon team members for further information.

Areas being considered for future ministries include Bend/Redmond, Eugene/Springfield, and East Multnomah County.
